Responsible Play Policy
LAST UPDATED 15 JULY 2026
Covered Club is a prize competition platform, not a gambling service, and we're not licensed or regulated by the Gambling Commission. Even so, our prizes are bills real households rely on — food, fuel, heating and childcare — and we know some of our entrants are people for whom money is tight. We take a careful, protective approach to who plays and how much they spend, in line with the DCMS Voluntary Code.
This Policy sets out the protections we've built in and the help available to anyone worried they're spending more than they should.
1. Our principles
- Only adults play. Entry is for people 18 and over.
- Spending on the Paid Route is capped by default.
- Credit card spending is capped at £250 per calendar month, in line with the DCMS Code.
- You can lower your cap, take a break, or self-exclude any time.
- You can always enter for free — with the same chance of winning — through the Free Entry Route.
- We don't chase or pressure entrants. We don't send marketing designed to recover lapsed users or that exploits near-miss or loss-chasing behaviour.
- We signpost independent support when we can see someone needs it.
2. Age verification
Entry is only for people 18 or over. We ask you to confirm your age when you sign up, when you enter through the Paid Route, and on every postal entry. Before we release any Prize, we verify Potential Winners' age and identity through a government-issued photo ID.
If we have reason to believe someone under 18 has created an Account or entered, we'll suspend the Account, void all entries, and refund any entry fees paid (there's nothing to refund for postal entries).
3. Spend cap
Every Account has a default cap of £100 per calendar month for Paid Route entries. You can lower it any time and it takes effect immediately. You can raise it up to a ceiling of £250 per calendar month by asking through your Account; an increase takes effect 24 hours after you ask, so you have time to reconsider.
Credit card spending is capped at £250 per calendar month per Account whatever higher personal cap you've set, in line with the DCMS Code.
Once you've hit your cap in a calendar month, you can't make further Paid Route entries until the next calendar month starts. The Free Entry Route stays available.
4. Time-out
You can put your Account on a time-out for 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or 90 days. During a time-out you can't make Paid Route entries but you can still log in to manage your Account, and the Free Entry Route stays open. Time-outs lift automatically at the end.
To set a time-out, sign in and go to Account → Responsible Play, or email responsibleplay@joincoveredclub.com.
5. Self-exclusion
Self-exclusion is a longer-term break. When you self-exclude, we close your Account and stop sending you marketing for the period you choose: 6 months, 12 months, or 5 years. Self-exclusion covers Paid Route entries; you can in principle still send a postal entry, but if we identify one as coming from a self-excluded person we'll void it without notification.
We'll take reasonable steps to stop you creating a new Account during the self-exclusion period. We hold the email address, name, date of birth and (where verified) identity document data associated with the self-excluded Account and use it to identify and block attempts to re-register on the same details. Because our self-exclusion is single-platform, we can't guarantee we'll detect every attempt using different details. Please tell us if you spot one.
We won't lift a self-exclusion before your chosen period ends. When it does, you can ask us to reopen the Account, subject to a 24-hour cooling-off before reopened access takes effect.
To self-exclude, email responsibleplay@joincoveredclub.com from the address on your Account.
6. Reality checks
We show a reality-check message when you've spent 80 per cent of your monthly cap, and another at 100 per cent.
7. Marketing
We don't send marketing to anyone who's self-excluded, on a time-out, or hasn't opted in. We don't send marketing designed to recover lapsed users, and we don't use near-miss, last-chance or loss-chasing language.
8. Spotting potential harm
In line with the DCMS Code, we use reasonable efforts to identify signs of potential harm — for example, repeated cap-raising, repeated chargebacks, rapid escalation of spend, or contact from a third party concerned about an entrant. Where we spot potential harm, we'll act reasonably and proportionately: contact the entrant, suggest a time-out, reduce the cap to the default, or in serious cases suspend the Account.
9. Where to get help
